Project Overview
Homeless International was a research partner in a DFID-funded project led by the Intermediate Technology Development Group (ITDG – known as Practical Action from 2005) looking at Regulatory Guidelines for Urban Upgrading. The project, which started in 2000 and finished in 2004, aimed to help local authorities and their partners to improve the regulatory frameworks affecting the development of low-income 'slum' settlements. You can find out more about the project on Practical Action's website.
Homeless International, together with our partner in India (SPARC), produced a series of papers documenting development schemes that challenged existing regulatory frameworks and offered alternatives based on practical experience. Homeless International also analysed regulatory frameworks from a financial perspective, in part drawing on research conducted as part of the Bridging the finance gap in housing and infrastructure project.
The papers themselves can be read or downloaded by clicking on the links below. However, choosing the links on the menu on the left hand side will enable you to read a little about the context and content of each paper before downloading it.
