The challenge begins!

5th July 2012

After a year of relentless fundraising and training, our Namibia Community Challengers set off on their adventure today. Over the next 10 days the group, who have so far raised over £53,000 in sponsorship for the trip, will work on a community-led housing project and complete a 3-day trek.

The group will begin the challenge working with local families in Namibia who are building their own homes in a project supported through our partner, the Namibia Housing Action Group (NHAG). NHAG supports poor households across Namibia who find it difficult to access land, secure tenure, adequate housing and basic services.  namibia-community

Working alongside and as part of the community, the team will learn how families are working together to overcome challenges to housing, water and sanitation in their communities.

For each of the participants, who work for housing organisations in the UK, the Namibia Community Challenge is an opportunity to see firsthand how housing-related issues are being tackled by poor communities overseas. After bidding farewell to the community, the group will embark on a multi-day trek taking in the sights of the Brandberg, Namibia’s highest mountain, and get back to nature as they sleep under canvas.

As they begin their adventure, we would like to thank each of the participants for their dedication and hard work over the last year.
