Homeless International has joined other UK organisations to sign a joint statement ahead of a Millennium Development Goals Review Summit in September 2010.
The statement, titled 'A last chance to keep our promises', asks the UK government to make an important contribution at the Summit, which will review progress on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The MDGs are a set of targets aimed at fighting global poverty and inequality. In 2000, all world leaders signed up to achieving the Goals by 2015. Whilst UK efforts have made important contributions towards achieving the MDGs, progress towards many of the targets is badly off track.

The United Nations is reporting that over three million people have been affected by the floods in Pakistan, with at least 1,500 killed and the Provinces of Sindh and Punjab on high alert.
Homeless International’s local partner in Pakistan, the Orangi Pilot Project (OPP), is operational in the areas affected by the floods and currently undertaking assessments to establish the scale of people's needs. Once OPP has a clearer picture of the situation on the ground, they will be able to identify how best to respond to the needs of the flood affected communities.
We have supported our partner organisations in the reconstruction of housing, water supplies and other infrastructure following disasters in the past, in Pakistan following the earthquake in 2005 and floods in 2007, in the Philippines following the typhoon in 2008 and in Sri Lanka following the tsunami in 2004.
Whilst we are waiting to hear from...

Our Staff

Homeless International’s fourth Guarantee Fund deposit amounting to £138k has been released by the Bank of India following the full repayment of a loan worth £1.3 million. The loan was accessed by our partner in southern India, the Integrated Village Development Project (IVDP) to support 15,077 women and their families to construct toilets as part of a wider water and sanitation improvement initiative.
Between 60 and 80 per cent of all illnesses in the project region occur due to inadequate water and sanitation, resulting in conditions such as diarrhoea, dysentry, typhoid and cholera. With individual household toilets, the lives of the 15,077 families have been drastically improved. Click here to read more about IVDP and the expanding network of women’s groups benefiting from their work.
This is the fourth loan that IVDP has secured and repaid in full with the support of Homeless International’s Guarantee Fund since 2001. Our guarantee deposits,...
