Homeless International has joined other UK organisations to sign a joint statement ahead of a Millennium Development Goals Review Summit in September 2010.
The statement, titled 'A last chance to keep our promises', asks the UK government to make an important contribution at the Summit, which will review progress on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The MDGs are a set of targets aimed at fighting global poverty and inequality. In 2000, all world leaders signed up to achieving the Goals by 2015. Whilst UK efforts have made important contributions towards achieving the MDGs, progress towards many of the targets is badly off track.

Homeless International is a long-standing member of Bond, the UK's broadest network of voluntary organisations working in international development.
Founded in June 1993, Bond aims to improve the UK's contribution to international development by promoting the exchange of experience, ideas and information. BOND provides a forum through which Homeless International and other members can engage with, and influence, the UK Government's Department For International Development (DFID) and other UK and European-based development institutions. Homeless International and others combine their messages and voice through Bond when advocating for changes in the way in which these institutions carry out their work. Homeless International also benefits from BOND's training and advice services, as well as the solidarity and experiences shared between Bond members.

UN-Habitat is the United Nations agency for human settlements. It is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities, with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all. It is therefore the main UN agency concerned with issues of housing, urban development and the challenge of slums.
In early November 2008, Homeless International attended the World Urban Forum (WUF) in Nanjing, China. This is a large conference organised by UN-Habitat that takes place every two years and focuses specifically on the growth of cities and towns across the world and the challenges and opportunities that this growth presents. It is the main global networking event for those organisations, donors, academics, government agencies and individuals who work in the areas of slum poverty and urban development and is an important platform for Homeless International to share the work we do and learn from others. This...

WUF4 (2008)

Urban Poverty Group

The Urban Poverty Group is a network of NGOs, university departments and consultants in the UK with a shared commitment to addressing the challenges of urban poverty worldwide.

Development Planning Unit (DPU)

Logo: Development Planning Unit (DPU) at University College London (UCL)

Working with universities forms part of our advocacy work. We want to make sure that the architects, planners and other professionals who will be working in urban development in the future have information about the kind of work that we and our partners do. We want to make sure that they have a chance to explore and discuss the principles that lie behind it and to appreciate the massive expertise that exists within communities with few physical assets. Working with universities also helps us to clarify the way we present things and sometimes we are really kept on our toes by the questions asked and the issues raised.
Homeless International has a long-standing relationship with the Development Planning Unit (DPU) of University College, London. DPU was one of the founder organisations of Homeless International and has always had a representative on our Council of Management. Caren Levy, our Deputy Chair, is Director...

Pragmatic Advocacy... book chapter (2005)
